Reignfall

Reignfall

One of the biggest rap stars to come out of Houston, Chamillionaire got his start in the late '90s, blowing up locally thanks to projects like Get Ya Mind Correct with fellow H-Town hero Paul Wall. After signing with Universal three years later, he dropped The Sound of Revenge: a hugely successful album that featured the smash hit "Ridin," which would eventually win him a GRAMMY and inspire Weird Al's parody song "White & Nerdy." Since then, he's released another quality album (Ultimate Victory) plus several mixtapes and EPs—even though the mainstream audience that briefly embraced anything and everything Houston-related has since moved on to tight pants and emo rap. While fans patiently wait for his upcoming full-length Poison, Chamillionaire hits us with Reignfall: an excellent seven-song joint that shows he hasn't lost a step. He's still one of the most lyrically gifted emcees from the South or otherwise. Everything here is great, especially "Go Get It," "Cloud 9," and the title track, which features Scarface, Killer Mike, and an absolutely classic old-school piano loop.
