This is the first time Live in Nashville, 1995 has been released as a standalone album. (Previously, this set was only available as part of The Warner Bros. Years box set.) The concert from Nashville's Polk Theater on Dec. 1, 1995, represents a major turning point in Steve Earle’s career. It’s considered his “comeback” show, performed after he’d completed rehab and a short prison stay. The Train Band of Peter Rowan, Norman Blake, and Roy Husky Jr.—who appeared on that year’s studio album Train A-Comin’—form his acoustic backing group, and guest appearances from Emmylou Harris and Bill Monroe further the set's legendary allure. A knockabout country-rock version of The Beatles’ “I’m Looking Through You” is just as emotionally riveting as his classic “The Devil’s Right Hand” and the then-current “Sometimes She Forgets.” Harris brings her best to a cover of The Melodians’ “The Rivers of Babylon,” which transforms the reggae classic into a deep Americana track. For Steve Earle fans, this set is a must-have.
