That's the Way It Is (Legacy Edition)

In 2014, the 1970 album That’s the Way It Is received major overhauls from RCA/Sony/Legacy with two distinct in-depth editions, Legacy and Deluxe. The deluxe set is the extensive collection with 156 tracks, while the legacy version settles for a mere 38 highlights. The original album shared a title with Denis Sanders’ 1970 documentary of Presley’s return to the stage at the International Hotel in Las Vegas, but only a third of the album featured live performances from the film; the remaining songs were recorded in Nashville prior to his return to the stage. This legacy version features the original album with the single versions of four tracks (“I’ve Lost You,” “The Next Step Is Love,” “You Don’t Have to Say You Love Me,” “Patch It Up”), five alternate outtakes, and the complete Aug. 12, 1970, dinner show added for an excellent representation of Elvis’ final career phase. His version of “Mary in the Morning” alone is worth the admission.
