Kristyles

Kristyles

True to its title, 2003’s Kristyles shows the diversity of KRS-One’s talent. Though the veteran rapper is often accused of adopting a narrow-minded view of hip-hop, this album offers something for everyone. There are in-your-face assaults (“Ya Feel Dat”) and soulful expressions of anguish (“It’s All a Struggle”), not to mention vintage disco jams (“9 Elements”). The smooth and shiny “Ain’t the Same” proves that KRS can even flow like Jay-Z if he chooses. Still, he’s at peak form when either storytelling (“What Else Happened”) or erupting in pure rage (“Gunnen’ Em Down”).
