Seemingly Solid Reality

Seemingly Solid Reality

Though stagnancy may be on Matthew Smith’s mind on the plaintive “Nothing’s Changed,” the rest of his band’s 10th album demonstrates his ability to keep Outrageous Cherry fresh after nearly two decades. Changing up the glam-rock bent of previous efforts, Seemingly Solid Reality combines Smith’s signature psych pop with moodier, dreamier textures. With their Bowie-esque sense of high drama, the title track and “Un-American Girls” could’ve fit onto Low, a comparison that would no doubt please a music fan like Smith.
