Odessey & Oracle - 40th Anniversary Concert (Live)

In 1968 the Zombies dropped their masterpiece, Odessey & Oracle, an album on par with the Beatles' Sgt. Pepper's and the Beach Boys' Pet Sounds. But they never performed songs from their opus in a live setting — they amicably parted prior to its release. Forward to 2001 when frontman Colin Blunstone and co-founding member and songwriter Rod Argent reunited for a few intimate concerts before taking the next few years to reunite the band and perform their most celebrated album in its entirety for the first time. The event came to pass in March of 2008, just in time for Odessey & Oracle's 40th anniversary. Back together with bass player and co-songwriter Chris White, drummer Hugh Grundy and Darian Sahanaja of the Wondermints (guitarist Paul Atkinson died in 2004), the Zombies resurrected their epic album at the Shepherd’s Bush Empire in London. From the first chorus of baroque-pop staple "Care of Cell 44" it's astonishingly evident that the Zombies somehow never lost a beat. The album's sole hit "Time of The Season" plays with time-capsuled authenticity; but the swirling "Beechwood Park" is the jewel of the crown.
