A Piece of Strange

A Piece of Strange

Repping for Atlanta and Lexington, Ky., Cunninlynguists first hit the scene in 2001 with their debut album, Will Rap for Food, followed by Southernunderground two years later. While both efforts were solid, on A Piece of Strange, they really hit their stride, with notably more ambitious songwriting and production, as well as an adjusted lineup; Mr. SOS was replaced by Natti, rounded out by group founders Deacon the Villain and Kno. Critically acclaimed and universally jocked by fans and critics, it flaunts a sophisticated sound reminiscent of classic OutKast/Dungeon Fam and led to high-profile shows with the likes of Kanye West and Pharrell Williams. While sporting a few great features (Cee Lo Green, Immortal Technique, Tone Def), it's still mostly about the trio's undeniable chemistry, with Kno's lush and soulful beatwork perfectly complementing Deacon and Natti's vivid vocals. Don't miss "Brain Cell," "Caved In," and "Beautiful Girl."
