Cult Status

Cult Status

A longtime subterranean MC out of Philly, Kamachi has been dropping indie 12-inches since the late ‘90s, and is probably best known for his rowdy guest spots on various Jedi Mind Tricks and Army of the Pharoahs projects. Originally released in 2004, Cult Status is his first solo album, and showcases his overtly aggressive style, a compelling delivery that mixes his intimidating, extra grimy flow (think Bumpy Knuckles) with dense and sophisticated wordplay, (along the lines of Killah Priest). Heavy drums and hypnotic loops dominate the production, while features come courtesy of true school icon Guru, who shows up on the single "The Best," as well as JuJu Mob crew member Reef The Lost Cauze, who gets busy on "#13." Other bangers include "Liberated Wax," "Hating On My Halo," and "Peddlin' Music." Dark, menacing, and wordy, it’s unlikely to get the dance floor popping, but it's still quality hip-hop for deep underground fanatics.
