The Vikings Are Back For Victory!!!
Bone crushing, helmet smashing, axe grinding, steel on steel metal! The Swedish warriors Amon Amarth are back with Surtur Rising, and I am giddy as a young Norse lad who has just slayed his first enemy! Every song on this album is "killer". A few absolutely brilliant gems that stand out are Slaves of Fear, Tock's Taunt - Loke's Treachery, Pt. 2, The Last Stand of Frej, and War of the Gods. The use of orchestral strings on Doom Over a Dead Man only adds to the intensity of the track. Overall, in my humble opinion, another masterpiece from a band who seems to only get better with time. If you are a fan, this is a must have! Stay strong and rock on my Pagan brothers and sisters.
Why that voice?
Ok the guitar work on this album is just awesome, especially on Slaves of Fear. But why that frog type voice. Why is it that every metal band has an over the top high pitch voice or a low toad like voice. It's just annoying. But I guess this isn't my type of music.
If you like great guitar work and don't care about the vocals, then this album is for you. However if you feel that the vocals offer an important part to the music, then I would skip this album.
