Chandra and Leigh Watson, twin sisters from Louisville, Kentucky, turn everything they touch into Laurel Canyon-country with a taste of their brilliant harmonies. They’re funky here, set deep in the cushions of a couch in a ‘70s family den with an AM/FM radio vibe that’s all Fender Rhodes. This EP is a collection of cover songs that range from Bill Withers’ hit, “Ain’t No Sunshine,” done as a ‘70s swamp-blues lounge tune, to the Black Keys’ “Tighten Up,” sung as a slow brooding-in-tongues. Sade’s “Sweetest Taboo” is tailor-made for these ladies. PJ Harvey’s “Angelene” is given a beautiful earthiness. The Turtles’ “You Showed Me” is slowed to a crawl to highlight each note and the flawless harmonies. Eurythmics’ “Here Comes the Rain Again” keeps up the pulse with a bewitching beauty. The EP is quite perfect.
