A Grand Tour of Tunisia

A Grand Tour of Tunisia

Recorded in 2007 during a London stay, A Grand Tour Of Tunisia is a double album of experimental mayhem that has become a fan favorite. The lineup of this ever-changing band then included Paul Labrecque, John Moloney, Sarah O'Shea, Robert Thomas, Ron Schneiderman, Michael Flower and Herb Diamante. “The Ebb and Flow of A Dark Stain on the Hudson” opens with a tangled snarl of freeform tomfoolery – like a dosed symphony tuning up pre-performance. The lengthy “Do You Really Want To Be Free?” covers a lot of ground with labyrinthine twists and turns of improv indie jazz slowly morphing into rhythmic workouts before its sonic topographies slowly erode and decay. The similarly long “Olive Goldpit” clocks in at 13:22 with shimmering drones and undulating tones that pulse and stretch throughout the composition before someone quotes the secret code from the Radio Free America Announcer as recited on the 1984 movie Red Dawn. “Owl-Town Spaceout” is another notable jam that honks and skronks on what sounds like broken woodwinds played over a skip along rhythm.
