Sketches In Spain

Sketches In Spain

Steve Wynn has recorded so much music over the years that some of it's still finding its first official U.S. release years after the sessions wrapped up. Sketches in Spain collects the two albums Wynn recorded with Paco Loco (Paco Martinez), a Spanish musician and producer best known for the band Australian Blonde. Wynn toured Spain in 1998 and met Loco; by 2000 Wynn was recording music in the U.S. and sending the tapes to Loco in Spain. It led to the album Momento, credited to Australian Blonde featuring Steve Wynn. In 2007, Wynn and his drummer-wife, Linda Pitmon, recorded an album with Loco at his Andalusian studio as Smack Dab. In 2014, both albums are available domestically, and Wynn fans can marvel at the variety, from the sung-spoken magic of “The Hollywood Sign” and the low-key cover of Hoyt Axton’s Three Dog Night hit “Never Been to Spain” to the full-on festive band explosion of “Suddenly” and “The King of Riverside Park.” Wynn keeps the cool demeanor of his Dream Syndicate days, no matter the situation.
