Super Hits: Living Colour

Super Hits: Living Colour

Featuring four songs apiece off Living Colour’s first two albums, Vivid and Time’s Up, one from the Biscuits EP (Jimi Hendrix’s “Burning of the Midnight Lamp”), and one from the third album, Stain (“Nothingness”), Superhits is a budget-line summary of the band’s first time around. Original bassist Muzz Skillings is on nine tracks, with his replacement, Doug Wimbish, only playing on the track from Stain. While there’s no way—short of purchasing all four of the band’s first releases—to get all the essentials, this is a decent, if obviously brief, look at Living Colour. Songs such as “What’s Your Favorite Color?,” “Cult of Personality,” “Open Letter (To a Landlord)," and “Type” were staples of the era preceding and following the debut of the Lollapalooza festival, for which Living Colour were in the first lineup. Other Living Colour greatest-hits collections usually feature about seven or eight of the choices here.
