Playlist: The Very Best of Tyrese

Growing up in L.A.'s infamous Watts neighborhood, Tyrese got his first big break singing in a Coca-Cola ad in the mid-'90s. His self-titled first album was released in 1998 and spawned three singles, most notably "Sweet Lady." 2000 Watts and I Wanna Go There followed, cementing his status as a fast-rising R&B star, with his biggest hit to date—"How You Gonna Act Like That"—cracking the Top 10 in 2003. His 2006 effort Alter Ego was an ambitious double disc that featured him rapping (as Black-Ty) on one half, though he returned to straighter R&B on 2011's Open Invitation. These days, he's probably better known for his acting (in movies like Baby Boy, 2 Fast 2 Furious, and the Transformers series), but his musical output is still worth visiting; it's a breath of fresh air from today's overproduced, blatantly digitized crooning. This collection features all of his earlier hits, plus much-loved collaborations with R. Kelly ("Signs of Makin' Love Part II") and Snoop ("Just a Baby Boy").
