Greatest Hits Live

Greatest Hits Live

Though released in 2001, this live album was recorded during the duo’s 1981-82 Private Eyes tour, meaning it captures Hall & Oates at their peak. It’s not exactly a greatest-hits collection, but more like an actual concert one would’ve heard back in the early ‘80s. “Rich Girl” starts the cruise through their best-known material; vibrant versions of it, “She’s Gone,” “Kiss on My List,” “Sara Smile," and especially “I Can’t Go for That (No Can Do)” say more than words ever could. Though “You Make My Dreams” never made it to No. 1 (it hung at No. 5), but it rocks hard enough following The Righteous Brothers’ “You’ve Lost That Lovin’ Feeling” to make this set one where past met present and everyone went home satisfied. The choice of “United State” as the encore or closer seems a daring choice; it's a decent song but much lesser known than others in the Hall & Oates catalog.
