One of the newer groups on the norteño scene, Proyecto X sing for the ladies and the lovers with the verve and sweet optimism of youth. On their sophomore offering, Con Más Pawer, the quintet from Salinas, Calif., cover all their bases. They deliver cheerful corridos (“Me Gustas Demasiado”), danceable cumbias (“Mamá Chole”), bilingual baladas (“My Baby”), and even boleros of their parents’ generation (the tango-inspired “Amigos Nada Más”), all punctuated by Eduardo Batres’ mighty tuba.
