Roots reggae harmony heroes The Abyssinians formed in the late '60s, but despite releasing a number of singles, they didn't unleash their debut album until 1976. Satta Massagana's title track is a moody, minor-key masterpiece of Rastafarian prophecy. But the rest of the record is equally weighty; whether we're talking about the angst-filled, Afrocentric "Black Man's Strain" or the rabble-rousing "Declaration of Rights," few artists have combined penetrating philosophical topics with sweetly soulful sounds as effectively as this.
