Television Man

Television Man

Naomi Punk’s second album elevates the groggy, grunge-inflected post-punk of The Feeling to trance-like states. Channeling a history of Pacific Northwestern sludge that includes the Melvins and Nirvana (as well as likeminded contemporaries like Parquet Courts and Protomartyr), the songs on Television Man lurch with strange passion, filled with mumbled, mantric vocals, toxic guitars, and moments of uncanny prettiness (“Television Man,” “Linoleum Tryst #19”) that flash like bits of mica in puddles of mud. It’s a deep dive into a grimy—but beautiful—underworld.
