Steel Wheel

Steel Wheel

A veteran DJ based in the Bay Area, DJ Revolution has dropped several excellent production albums over the years (most notably In 12s We Trust and King of the Decks), and is perhaps best known for his work alongside Sway and King Tech at the legendary Wake Up Show. On Steel Wheel he flexes his skills on the beats as well as the cuts, presenting 21 instrumental tracks custom made for fledgling emcees to get loose on. While many hip-hop producers can fall into one-dimensional sounds (all synths, all 808s . . . etc), Revolution shows his stylistic diversity by flipping all kinds of different vibes. "Street Beat" is clearly a nod to Melle Mel's breakdance classic "Beat Street," "Late Nine Tease" comes with hard snare hits and lots of scratches, influenced by the likes of Premier and KutMasta Kurt, while "Ruff Enuff" gets a little gangsta with it.
