This French-American duo (pronounced "Detective") consists of Guylaine Vivarat and former Guided by Voices member James Greer. They continue their prolific outpouring with 2015’s Uptime!, another strong release featuring elements of Blondie (“Miley Cyrus Wins the Race”) and Wire (“It’s a Stealer”). Vivarat handles the majority of the vocals for a sugary dreamlike aura; however, Greer turns in an appropriately stiff-yet-poppy performance on “Don’t Be Stupid” that serves as part of the duo’s protein portion. “Rock ’n’ Roll Hall of Fame Induction Song” further explores their art-pop ennui with more humor than pretension, while deliberately confusing the two.
