A Night On the Town

A Night On the Town

Brownsville Station may have been less confrontational than their Ann Arbor peers in The MC5, but their second album, A Night on the Town, shows that what they lacked in fury they made up for in versatility. Here they dabble in country (“I Got Time”), power pop (“Mad for Me”), and Southern rock (“Country Flavor”), playing it all with a wonderfully ragged, lived-in feeling. At their heart, though, Brownsville Station remained a roaring Michigan rock outfit, as evidenced by the brashness of “Wanted (Dead or Alive),” “Leavin’ Here,” and the incendiary closer, “The Man Who Wanted More (Saints Rock & Roll).”
