Tomorrow Forever

Tomorrow Forever

The Farewell Drifters occupy the middle ground between bluegrass and melodic pop anchored by tight harmony singing. On Tomorrow Forever, their third release, they edge closer to folk-rock by adding drums and electric guitar to their original bluegrass lineup of acoustic guitar, mandolin, fiddle, and upright bass. Across these dozen songs, there's less emphasis on strict instrumental precision and more on keeping things loose and finding the groove. There's also a bit more grit on songs like "Modern Age" and "To Feel Alive," which get a big boost from the drums. A few other tracks, like "Tennessee Girl," reveal little of the band's bluegrass roots, perhaps signaling the band's future direction. Tomorrow Forever is another move forward for a dynamic group in the vein of The Avett Brothers, Fleet Foxes, The Lumineers, and similar acoustic-oriented vocal groups.
