My Dreams Dictate My Reality

My Dreams Dictate My Reality

Soko, born Stephanie Sokolinski, studied acting at age 17 and appeared in French films before scoring a European hit with the song “I’ll Kill Her.” My Dreams Dictate My Reality is her second album; it's produced by Ross Robinson (who's also worked with The Cure). It features duets (“Monster Love,” “Lovetrap”) with her friend Ariel Pink, while sporting a mix of retro-pop-type songs (think Blondie) and futuristic sound waves. “I Come in Peace,” the anti-homophobe protest song “Who Wears the Pants??,” and “Temporary Mood Swings” boast intelligence, humor, and bright, uptempo moves that suggest this self-taught multi-instrumentalist has a long way to go before she’s satisfied.
