Bristol, UK’s Pop Group helped define post-punk during their first incarnation from 1977 to 1981. A 2010 reunion showed that they could still make a unique sound, and working here with producer Paul Epworth (Adele) they deliver a demanding album that remains true to their iconoclastic principles. You can hear where those whom they influenced now sound like influences; the musical conversation continues beyond decades. “The Immaculate Deception” sounds like a cross between Public Image Ltd. and a modern industrial band coming to an agreement. “s.o.p.h.i.a.” imagines B.A.D. with nasty fangs. “Nowhere Girl,” “St. Outrageous,” and “Nations” demand their space.
