Night Train

Night Train

Piano master Oscar Peterson's most popular album emerged from intense 1962 recording sessions with sizzling drummer Ed Thigpen and superbly swinging bassist Ray Brown. Sounding so casually profound, you wouldn't know they were gigging all night and recording all day, the trio knock jam-session standards like Duke Ellington's title track and Milt Jackson's "Bags’ Groove" out of the park, before ending with Peterson's gospel-heavy "Hymn to Freedom." Made refreshingly concise in hopes of attracting radio play, these tracks speak volumes.
