Vice Squad’s 1982 sophomore album Stand Strong Stand Proud is often hailed by punk scholars as one of the most underrated LPs of British punk. The following “Humane” drives with the faster rhythms normally associated with hardcore, although the song’s accessible melodies keep it more rooted in the punk realm. “Rock ‘n’ Roll Massacre” is all kinds of fun as Bondage fantasizes about taking out classic rock icons over a fast-throttled punk tune with sing-along lyrics. Championing youth independence, “Freedom Begins At Home urges people to take a stand against abusive parents. Bondage’s ability to bring out catchy melodies and clever phrasing makes her the salient star, even if she fancied herself as just one of the people back then.
