Repping for Oakland, Calif., Clyde Carson has been doing his thing since 2001, when he dropped his first mixtape, The Story Vol. 1. The following year, he joined forces with Mayne Mannish and Kaz Kyzah and started a group called The Team, releasing three albums (Beyond the Glory, The Negro League, and World Premiere) and dropping local hit singles like "Bottles Up" and "Just Go" during the Bay Area's short-lived Hyphy craze. Soon after, Clyde went solo and scored a deal with The Game's Black Wall Street/Capitol Records and put out the EP Doin' It. His solo full-length never came out, and he soon went back to the indie route and his own label, Moe Doe Entertainment, releasing the solid if slept-on Bass Rock in 2009. Now, after a reunion with The Team and the YouTube hit "Slow Down," he's back with Playboy: a 10-track banger that continues his M.O. of chunky bass drops, clap-heavy beats, and rhymes about partying, flossing, and hustling day in and day out. It's definitely enjoyable, especially the single "Pour Up," "Do That Ho," and "Mile Away" with Master P.
