Appia Kwa Bridge

Appia Kwa Bridge

Furthering the momentum of his 2010 international debut, West African heavyweight Ebo Taylor balances indestructible Afrofunk horn riffs with heartfelt highlife guitar on Appia Kwa Bridge. Featuring contributions from Nigerian drum god Tony Allen, the album channels a ’70s sound thanks to analog organs and layered, polyrhythmic percussion. Taylor draws from his Ghanaian roots while showing his emotions—the ferocious “Ayesama” is adapted from a Fante war cry, while “Barrima” is a brittle, solo guitar tribute to the passing of his first wife.
