Humble Pie’s second album is a very 1969 affair. The plangent guitar chords (particularly on the blissed-out “The Light of Love”), the pleading and testifying soul vocals of Steve Marriott and Peter Frampton (“Cold Lady”), rattling percussion (“Take Me Back”), and sun-dappled introspection (“Only You Can See”) are postcards from a roots-obsessed rock scene. Meanwhile, “Down Home Again” is a road-warrior’s blues in boogie form and “Every Mother’s Son” is a folky lament from the perspective of a traveling rock star.
