Signed and Sealed in Blood

Signed and Sealed in Blood

Dropkick Murphys sound exactly like what you'd imagine The Pogues would be had they been born in America and raised on punk and hard rock, with their Celtic roots distanced by an ocean. This Irish band from Boston went so far as to record a St. Patrick's Day show in Beantown for one live album and a performance at Fenway Park for another, so they know how to throw a party—and 2013's Signed and Sealed in Blood plays like one long bash. Where 2011's Going Out in Style was written as a concept album about the life and death of an Irish immigrant, Signed's only "concept" is to shake it down without remorse. Anyone who grew up listening to The Clash and found that band's passion and energy a necessary engine should feel at home with these blistering anthems, which range from fiery and demanding ("The Boys Are Back") to sweetly tuneful ("Jimmy Collins' Wake") without losing their spiritual core.
