Little Fockers (Original Motion Picture Soundtrack)

Stephen Trask, who first garnered attention for writing music and lyrics for the stage and screen versions of Hedwig and the Angry Inch, has scored a number of films, including four by director Paul Weitz: In Good Company, American Dreamz, Cirque du Freak, The Vampire’s Assistant, and 2010’s Little Fockers. Most of the cues for this comedy, which stars Robert DeNiro and Ben Stiller, are orchestral, but the album kicks off with “Greg’s Theme (Main Titles),” an uplifting instrumental rocker featuring acoustic guitar, orchestra bells, hand claps, and other nice touches. “The Godfocker” inventively riffs on tango as a horn statement sounds out above orchestra and snare drum, while “Chicago Train Chase” fills the air with tense strings and percussion. “Sustengo With a Nasonex Chaser” moves from the playful, comforting sounds of Exotica to darker-hued material. “One Pill Makes You…” features clarinet outlining a melody over a shuffling rhythm. “Suite: Piece of Cake / Land Shark / Suck It! / Meow / Schtupp” includes a dramatic, percussion-accented orchestral passage and hard-hitting rock. The album wraps up with two versions of “Greg’s Jam,” a reprise of the opener.
