Phonat- Phonat

Phonat is a pioneer of his style of music. He creatively combines electric guitar, drum, bass, voice sampling, and various electronic music to create sounds that resemble tripped-out Daft Punk or Justice that you want to dance to. With a kick that resembles house music and upbeat synthesizer melodies combined with the smooth chopping and screwing of voice samples, Phonat needs to have his own genre of music within the dance category of techno.

While all the songs are unique in their own way, “Set me free” wins the most likely to be heard in a club or to top the charts prize. This song jumps right in with a very uplifting synthesizer melody combined with the kicks and claps you may associate with house/club music. Phonat “makes it his own” when he adds his unique voice sampling element to the song. Unlike his others, it does not have as much of the drum and bass, but it will leave your head pulsing (in a good way) from the complexity of the song. The synthesizers and various electronic instruments that have been distorted and juxtaposed over various pitches and frequencies are layered perfectly with no interference.

Every song on the album is incredibly complex , proving that Phonat has some serious skill. He displays his expertise of layering the best in the song “Learn to Recycle”. The song does justice to the title because it actually sounds like Phonat is recycling sounds. He uses voice sampling in the most ingenious way as if he is adding another beat with the short clips of singing. On top of this, just as in his other songs, he has electric guitar riffs, synthesizer melodies, various drum and percussion beats, and sounds going back and forth from left to right all at once.

It is not the immense amount going in each song but the clarity at which you can pick each individual thing out that sets Phonat apart from the others. It is puzzling how he can make one song sound like rock, metal, dance, pop, hip-hop, and house at the same time. He should be considered a scientist of music with the way he mixes random sounds from various genres to create great things.

Not only is he masterful when it comes to creating songs, he shows his true artistic ability with the way he composed the album. Not only does each song have a unique and unexpected progression, the album itself is arranged in a way that will never leave you bored. He even takes another step to touch the roots of techno by beginning “Love hits the fan” with what I believe is a Theremin. Throughout the album you will find yourself pumped up, confused, relaxed, and even amused at some of the songs.

This album definitely deserves a 5/5 and should be recommended to all. It will satisfy all indulgers of techno from people that know the history and artistic element to people at clubs just looking for something to move to. Phonat proves he is a musician with his truly unique style, artistic composition, and skill, in this album.

Amazing sounds

Not as well known as he should be, this skilled Italian is finally bursting onto the scene with some of the most catchy remixed sounds of the year. Definitely worth the money.

Incredible

Easily one of the best electronic albums I have heard in a long time.
