Rich Girl (Deluxe Version)

Rich Girl (Deluxe Version)

As one of the most respected artists in the neo-soul movement, Angie Stone has earned the right to bring her vision to fruition with whomever she chooses. And she chooses brilliantly throughout Rich Girl. Mike Flowers cowrote "Backup Plan," which has an upbeat groove that locks backing vocals into Stone's confident lead track. Even the modern production effects do nothing to harm Stone's soul pedigree, but rather add a fresh feel to an already-solid track. Malcolm-Jamal Warner (a.k.a. Theo Huxtable of The Cosby Show) pays tribute to the singer with a spoken-word piece, "Interlude." That piece sets up the album's second half, starting with the firm but sweet ballad "Alright." "First Time" combines the lush arrangements of classic Gamble & Huff Philly soul with Stone's manicured best. "Livin' It Up" updates Stone's sound to the late '80s, with muscular New Jack Swing beats. "U Lit My Fire" takes a groove that moves sideways and gives it over to Stone's playful phrasings. The deluxe version adds two bonus tracks and the video for "Do What U Gotta Do."
