Challenging album worthy of multiple listens
Awesome record! I recommend giving this album a series of at least four attentive listens: First Time, follow the chords and melodies; Second Time, follow the lyrics; Third Time, follow the arrangements; Fourth Time: take it all in as one synergistic tapestry of elements that are both contrasting and complimentary. If you don’t love it after four listens, you probably never will. Personally, I’ve never stopped listening.
Beautiful Guitar
I got this album after hearing someone play Elegy at a party. It’s an acoustic guitar track that really stood out from all the other “party music” they were playing, and it made me want to hear more. I wasn’t sure of what I thought of the rest of the album at first, but there were things here and there that stood out, like South of Heaven, Odd Man Out, and Easy Come Easy Go. Over time, though, the more rock oriented tracks grew on me a lot (such as Invisible Lines and 27). Not too many people have heard of this artist, which is a shame. This is great stuff worthy of a bigger audience.
Amazing
I bought this album a few days ago, have listened to it over and over again since, and keep going back and forth between “wow this is great” and “how the &#$& does someone even come up with this music?”. Just now listened to it twice in a row with headphones and figured it’s about time to give it a review. I don’t know what else to say but that it’s an amazing album in every way. Also, Dan Wallace might be the best (or at least most inspired and versatile) guitarist in rock today (I’m looking at you Rolling Stone Top 100 whatever).
