Alligator Bogaloo

Alligator Bogaloo

Packed to the gills with sinuous, funky grooves, Alligator Bogaloo is one of saxman Lou Donaldson's most powerful albums. Guitarist George Benson and organist Lonnie Smith complement Donaldson's sharpshooting solos with spare, spicy runs and contribute their own sultry solos when the moment demands. On the hard-swinging "Rev. Moses" and the slow-burning "Aw Shucks," Donaldson's salty lines wrap around infectious hard bop and soul jazz, but the band still finds time to push things further out with the modal modernism of "One Cylinder."
