One-third of Bay Area goof-rap B-boys extraordinaire Foreign Legion, Prozack Turner is one of those rappers who should be a lot more famous but for whatever reason (bad luck, bad timing, or simply a bad case of the breaks) never really blew up. In the early '00s, he had a solo deal and an album full of beats from Dilla, Pete Rock, and Madlib. Then the label shut down and shelved the project indefinitely. Discouraged but determined, he holed up in Ireland to record Bangathon!, assisted by producers like Jake One and Oh No. The resulting album was easily one of 2005's most acclaimed releases. Anyone with an ear for funk-laden, sample-friendly beats and dynamic, witty lyricism is sure to dig this, especially tracks like "Summertime in the Town," "The Ballad of Adriana Sage," and "World's an Uproar," featuring Brother Ali. Also fitting is the autobiographical-struggle saga "Hungry," where he laments: "I might as well put this microphone back on the shelf/Nobody's buyin' what I'm tryin' to sell/I'm just trying to make a dollar out of 15 fans/I been around the world three times in these pants."
