A nine-piece live band from the Bay Area, Bayonics have been riling up crowds and filling dance floors with a unique mix of hip-hop, funk, reggae, and Latin-infused stylings for many years now. City Roots is their third official release. (Their self-titled debut full-length dropped in 2007, followed by Mission Statement four years later.) This finds the party-rocking crew in fine form, with a short but sweet EP loaded with Bayonics' trademark multi-culti good-time fusion jams. Seven tracks deep, this project is a decidedly more reggae-fied effort, with ultra-smooth vocals from E. Love on several joints and a strong Luv Fyah feature on "Rude Boys." As always, positive vibrations and excellent musicianship abound, with mellow horn arrangements, skanking guitar parts, and righteously funky bass lines galore. Check out "Reggae Bounce," the en-Español closer "No Eres Tu," and the lead single "Not the One."
