Two Lane Highway

Two Lane Highway

The country-rock band’s 1975 album sees a different lineup than on their first two efforts, but the songs are as good and maybe better. You can intrinsically feel the open road here, which helps explain an overall airy sense of hopefulness. There’s even a heartfelt cover of Gene Clark’s great trainspotter “Kansas City Southern.” Elsewhere, the title song and “Harvest” recall The Eagles and Poco, while “I’ll Change Your Flat Tire, Merle” honors Merle Haggard and the country teardrop “Just Can’t Believe It” features a duet with Emmylou Harris. Chet Atkins adds some guitar, and the pedal steel playing is heavenly throughout.
