Au Revoir Simone’s sophomore album, The Bird of Music, again shows the Brooklyn trio’s knack for weaving delightfully minimalist electro-pop out of elementary keyboards and sparse, childlike vocals. “Sad Song” is a miniature epic of rushing handclaps and slowly accumulating synth effects, while “Fallen Snow” combines jingling bells with wistful harmonies to wonderfully gleeful effect. Between the band’s achingly innocent melodies and the subtle sense of wonder coursing through their music, the album is like a wind-up music box come to life.
