Seeds

One of the most talented, charismatic, and unpredictable artists working today, Georgia Anne Muldrow has put out a gang of material since her 2006 debut EP, including the albums Olesi: Fragments of an Earth, King's Ballad, and Owed to Mama Rickie, plus multiple projects under different aliases (Jyoti, Pattie Blingh & The Akebulan Five) and G&D, her project with frequent collaborator/life partner Dudley Perkins. Her style is hard to describe but easy to dig: she's a relentlessly positive, spiritually aware woman, unafraid to experiment with nontraditional song structures and genre-blending on just about every track. While she usually produces all of her own material, on Seeds she hands the sonic control over to likeminded L.A. beat maestro Madlib, who's hyper-talented, prolific, and musically all over the place in his own right. The two of them sound great together, and it's a surprise that it took this long for them to collaborate on a whole album. Seeds inhabits a space somewhere between Erykah Badu and Sun Ra, with soulful tunes and good vibes to spare. Check out "Calabash," "Best Love," "Remember," and "The Few" with Declaime.
