Lock My Heart

Lock My Heart

Having met in 2010 during an appearance on the radio program A Prairie Home Companion, where they performed Duke Ellington's "I Got It Bad and That Ain't Good," jazz pianist Dick Hyman and singer Heather Masse (of the Canadian folk trio The Wailin' Jennys) took things a step further. Here, they recorded a collection of standards from the Great American Songbook. Two Masse originals—"If I Called You" and "Morning Drinker"—are pleasant songs that fit the style and mood of the classics, even if they're unlikely to challenge the works of George & Ira Gershwin, Kurt Weill, or Lorenz Hart & Richard Rodgers. With more than 60 years of performing behind him, Hyman has proven himself a true authority on the songs presented here. Folks searching for music for a candlelight dinner surely won't go wrong choosing this piano-and-voice collection that stays true to the originals.
