Get It Together

Get It Together

Tucson via Seattle’s Supersuckers celebrate twenty years of rocking their lives away with their first studio album in five years. Get It Together employs the band’s surefire brand of country-punk, bucking up on powerfully charged electric guitars that take full advantage of the stereo soundscreen as the twisted licks curl through the stronger than average songwriting. That’s the band’s secret ingredient. For all their loud bravado and live experience, the band hits the studio knowing full well the true power is not the volume, but the songs themselves. So tunes such as “She Is Leaving,” “What It Takes,” and “I Like It All, Man” balance between the heartfelt and the frivolous, settling on catchy choruses meant for instant gratification and which sound great emerging from the stereo, yet with an ear for the stage. The guitar solos are quick and satisfying, as on the climate-raising “When I Go, I’m Gone.” And there’s even a ballad, “Breaking Honey’s Heart,” that aches with the parched Arizona desert of their previous home looming in the background.
