In January 1970, The Doors performed four shows over two nights at the Felt Forum, Madison Square Garden's intimate, designed-for-music venue. It'd be the last time Jim Morrison played with The Doors in New York City before his 1971 death. The recordings here are presented as close to uncut as possible, meaning tracks such as "Start of Show" and "Tuning/Breather" are just what the titles suggest. The band fills these sets with plenty of blues-based rock, including "Money," "Who Do You Love," "Crawling King Snake," "Roadhouse Blues," and "Little Red Rooster." Morrison's role as psychedelic shaman is still somewhat in place. "The End," "When the Music's Over," and "Break on Through (To the Other Side)" show a transcendent range of ideas and emotions from The Doors' early days. The band members are on their game, knowing the performances were being recorded for a possible live album. A good number of these tracks made their way to 1970's Absolutely Live and 1997's Box Set, though many here are previously unreleased.
