One of the best artists I've heard in a long time.
I first found this Jack Conte fellow when I saw the feature of his music video for "Yeah Yeah Yeah" on youtube. Clicking on the link, I had no idea what I was getting myself into, but, to this day, I'm glad I decided to check out the video. I don't believe there is a single song this man has created that I don't like. He does all the vocals and backing instruments himself, which really amazes me. The way he creates sounds upon sounds and how those sounds complement each other really pleases my ears, and I honestly cannot compare him to anyone else I've ever HEARD, let alone any artist out right now. Check out this EP, look for his "video songs" on his youtube page, and get to know the man behind the music. You will not be disappointed.
New, complex & downright incredible...
Jack Conte is a fellow of amazing talent. Hunt down his videos on youtube and you can see into his creative process: banging away on muted pianos, hiding delicate reversed toy xylophones in the mix, contorting his face to the emotion of what he's singing. And out comes raw, new, independant modern pop, existing not between but as a strange hybrid love child of the Pixies, Radiohead, Incubus, Stereolab, Aphex Twin, the Residents...These are a step away from bedroom recordings, and he doesn't always succeed 100%, but the odd structures and sounds and melodies will get lodged firmly in your head. Nicely done, Mr. Conte!

Just about everything I'm hearing from Jack, whether it's Jack Conte or Pomplamoose, has been a total treat. It's always surprising, and although the songs rarely end up in a place I'd expect them to go, it always sounds just right. Highly recommended.
