13 Live

13 Live

Best known as the music director and leader of the house band for Conan O'Brien's show on TBS, Jimmy Vivino has proven he can play anything he desires. 13 Live is Vivino's trip through his own songs and covers of Bob Dylan, James Brown, Traffic, and Johnny Winter, all with a peerless band of musicians that originally formed in the '90s during a residency at the music bar Downtime in New York City. In November 2012, the reunited band recorded this concert at Levon Helm's barn and studio in Woodstock, N.Y. This show is jammed with brilliant performances. Dylan's "From a Buick 6" and "Maggie's Farm," Johnny Winter's "Fast Life Rider," and Traffic's "Light Up or Leave Me Alone" all sound as comfortable as Vivino's originals, especially "Heaven in a Pontiac" and "Miss Mona." Vivino's "Song for Levon," written for the occasion, is a soulful tribute that sounds as if The Band itself was playing it in its prime. The spirited rendition of The Band's "The Shape I'm In" is a formidable closer.
