Radio Sweetheart

Radio Sweetheart

Sarah Borges is yet another underrated singer/songwriter whose fans love her so adamantly that they contributed well more than the amount she was seeking to record Radio Sweetheart. She’s been a favorite in Boston for years, but money came in from as far as China. Borges then settled into Wooly Mammoth Sound, owned by Dave Minehan—the singer/guitarist of Boston rockers The Neighborhoods as well a guitarist for the reformed Replacements. Los Lobos’ Steve Berlin engineered the album, while NRBQ’s Terry Adams and Lone Justice’s Ryan Hedgecock make guest appearances. Borges herself is in prime form, writing key tracks that sound like future live favorites, including “The Waiting and the Worry” (which cops a chord from NRBQ’s “Ridin’ in My Car”) and the title track (which isn't the Elvis Costello song but one of Borges', where she positively projects herself into a role she’d love to play). Whether radio takes her on, she’s recorded a credible album that alt-country and indie pop fans are sure to appreciate.
