You Love You

You Love You

Every few years a band comes around to either emulate or parody glam-rock. New York’s Semi Precious Weapons dabble a bit in both worlds, leaning much harder on the side that worships at the altar of spandex and hairspray. But what sets singer Justin Tranter apart from all the other frontmen is that when it comes to rock ‘n’ roll, he’s done his homework — literally. Tranter graduated from the Berklee College of Music, where he studied not only songwriting, but music/entertainment business as well. After forming Semi Precious Weapons, Tranter landed the former T. Rex manager B.P. Fallon and legendary producer Tony Visconti (David Bowie, Thin Lizzy, Sparks, Adam Ant, Manic Street Preachers, etc) who mixed You Love You with help from Lady Gaga. The album opens with their namesake song, blending glitter with glam as early-‘70s- inspired handclaps accent dirty guitar leads and Tranter’s androgynous vocals spit out narcissistic lyrics. “Put a Diamond In It” has Visconti injecting some of that Marc Bolan heaviness alongside Jimmy Page sounding guitars, while “I Could Die” is bona fide riff-rock that would make Bon Scott proud.
