The Gambler EP

The Gambler EP

Released exclusively through iTunes, The Gambler EP features a studio recording of the Kenny Rogers classic “The Gambler”; it's sung with power and precision, acknowledging the timeless melody and the emotional importance of the words. The Soul Coughing tune “Janine” was recorded "from the street in Seattle," while the remaining songs were recorded at various radio stations. “St. Louise Is Listening” is the other Soul Coughing track, with “Busting Up a Starbucks” being a key Doughty solo tune found in its studio incarnation on Haughty Melodic and played here with guitar and electric piano and featuring a chat between Doughty and a DJ at Seattle's KEXP. The remaining two songs are covers. “Strange Powers” hails from The Magnetic Fields’ voluminous catalog, while “The King of Carrot Flowers” is a song borrowed from Neutral Milk Hotel.
