Green Day's love for all eras of rock 'n' roll permeates the second record of the band's 2012 trilogy. "Stray Heart" boasts a pogo-stick bassline and animated post-punk riffs plucked straight out of early-'00s indie, while "Lady Cobra" grafts a classic-rock backbeat onto shuffling garage-punk guitars, and "Nightlife" infuses a slinky blues number with a New Wave quirkiness. The raunchy "Makeout Party" even bears a sleazy '70s rock-god swagger.
