Dissapointing.
This album really makes me angry. What happened to the Colorado Sunrise and Holler Till You Pass Out 3oh!3? They were so unique and they had such a good sound, and now they're exactly like all of the pop groups on the radio. Stop being so mainstream 3oh!3, and then I'll buy one of your cd's again.
An Honest Review
It's not as though this is the worst album a band has ever put out. Some call the Colorado party starters sell outs, and perhaps rightfully so, but given the chance OF COURSE someone is going to capitalize on the success of a couple larger than life songs. Don't Trust Me brought the band into the mainstream for better or for worse. For them, it's undoubtedly for the better. Sure it isn't Electroshock or Neatfreak47. But if 3OH!3 released this album as their debut, everyone would be hopping on the bandwagon and proclaiming them as the next big dance rock group. It's solely because of their other albums that this album will probably take heat. I see a band that's gone in a new direction and trying to appeal to a different demographic. Are they in it for the money? Maybe. But they're making a hell of a lot more than you and me.
All That Glitters...
Let's be honest. You were never listening to 3Oh!3 because you wanted a message. No, you listened because the guys made some pretty catchy electronica-tinged crunk-type music. It was unique for the time. It wasn't the best thing anyone's ever listened to, but who cares? It's 3Oh!3! "Want" was full of slightly witty party antics not all that different than the Beastie Boys "Fight For Your Right To Party". Now, while that song was a joke, 3Oh!3 put in enough good music on the album to make it a worthy listen. Streets of Gold fails to recreate the same feeling. Every song feels like it's been done before by a worse band. "House Party" is like LMFAO if LMFAO got a lobotomy. And let's be clear: I hate LMFAO. The cleverness is gone, and now it's just booze, party, booze, lament on former relationships with a jaded view, booze, repeat. "Streets" feels like the guys are going back to the well and there's no real progression in the music from "Want", proving that Streets of Gold doesn't glitter, but looks rather dull in the light.
